Honorary Awards

Honorary Member are individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Society of Rubber Science and Technology, Japan. They are selected through a process that includes nomination by members, review by the Honorary Member Selection Committee, recommendation by the Board of Directors, and approval by the General Assembly of Members.
Additionally, the Society of Rubber Science and Technology, Japan has established various awards to recognize outstanding achievements by its members, including the The Award of Society of Rubber Science And Technology, Japan, The Technical Progress Award of Society of Rubber Science And Technology, Japan, The Best Paper Award of Society of Rubber Science And Technology, Japan, The Technical Contribution Award of Society of Rubber Science And Technology, Japan, The Oenslager Award of Society of Rubber Science And Technology, Japan, Encouragement Award of Science and Technology, CERI Encouragement Award for Young Scientist, and Bridgestone Soft Materials Frontier Award (award details available in PDF format).Furthermore, at the Annual Conference Research Presentation Meeting and Elastomer Discussion Meeting, we present the Excellent Young Scientist Presentation Award, Excellent English Presentation Award, Excellent Poster Presentation Award, and CERI Best Presentation Award.

Awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Society of Rubber Science and Technology, Japan.

Selection

Candidates are nominated by members, reviewed by the Honorary Member Recommendation Committee, recommended by the Board of Directors, and approved by approval by General Meeting of Members.

The Award of Society of Rubber Science And Technology, Japan

Overview

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the association's founding, this award is presented annually to up to two members who have contributed to the advancement of science, technology, or industry in the field of rubber and related areas and whose achievements are well known.

Selection

Recommendations are solicited from members, branch offices, and representatives of related academic and professional associations by November 30 of each year, and the committee conducts the selection.

「Development of Active Tread Technology」

The Technical Progress Award of Society of Rubber Science And Technology, Japan

Overview

Established to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the association's founding, this award is intended to contribute to the advancement of rubber technology. It is generally awarded annually to one outstanding research project related to rubber technology. The award is funded by a donation from Kato Sangyo Co., Ltd. (until 2025, Muraoka Rubber Industry Co., Ltd.).

Selection

Each year, research topics are announced in the September issue of the association's journal, with applications due by the end of January of the following year. A review and evaluation are conducted in mid-February.

The Best Paper Award of Society of Rubber Science And Technology, Japan

Overview

This award was established to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Society's founding, with the aim of promoting the development of rubber science and technology and enhancing the content of the Society's journal. In principle, it is awarded annually to up to two research papers published in the Society's journal over the past three years that are deemed outstanding. The award is funded by a donation from Ouchi Shinsei Chemical Industry Co., Ltd.

Candidates are selected by a committee.

The Technical Contribution Award of Society of Rubber Science And Technology, Japan

Overview

In commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of this society, the The Technical Contribution Award of Society of Rubber Science And Technology, Japan was established in 2020 to recognize up to two individuals annually who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of production technology related to the rubber and plastic industries. The award is presented to members of this society.

Selection

The committee will select award candidates from among members recommended by November 30 each year.

The Oenslager Award of Society of Rubber Science And Technology, Japan

Overview

Established in 1957 to honor the memory of the late George Oenslager, a distinguished authority in the American rubber industry, this award was originally founded as a joint prize by the Chemical Society of Japan and the Society of Rubber Science and Technology, Japan. It was made possible through a donation from Mr. Oenslager’s bereaved family, given via the Society of Rubber Science and Technology, Japan.
The award is presented biennially to no more than one recipient, in recognition of outstanding research or significant achievements that have contributed to the academic or industrial advancement of rubber-related fields.
Since 1997, the award has been administered solely by the Society of Rubber Science and Technology, Japan, and is currently supported by a donation from The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd.

Selection

Candidates for the award are recommended by members, branch offices, or representatives of related academic societies by November 30 of the previous year, and selected by a committee.

Encouragement Award of Science and Technology

Overview

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Society's founding, the Society of Rubber Science and Technology, Japan has presented biennial Science and Technology Encouragement Grants, capped at 1 million yen, to research groups or individual members primarily engaged in research or investigation contributing to the advancement of science and technology related to rubber and plastics.In 2007, the existing Science and Technology Encouragement Grant was revised, and it was decided that starting in 2008, Encouragement Award of Science and Technology would be presented annually to no more than one recipient.

CERI Encouragement Award for Young Scientist

Overview

In 2007, the Chemical Substances Evaluation Research Institute proposed an encouragement program for young researchers, and it was decided to award up to one prize annually to young researchers (members) who contribute to the advancement of science and technology in the evaluation and processing of rubber and plastics. The program is funded by donations from the Chemical Substances Evaluation Research Institute.

Bridgestone Soft Materials Frontier Award

Overview

In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of this society, Bridgestone Corporation proposed a prize system to encourage young researchers. With the aim of promoting the development of rubber technology and the rubber industry, expanding the pool of rubber researchers, and fostering their growth, this award encourages cutting-edge research in rubber and related fields that may contribute to future rubber technology and the rubber industry. The Frontier Award is awarded annually to one recipient, and the Encouragement Award is awarded to up to two recipients.
