A massive earthquake of magnitude 9.0 occurred on the Pacific coast of Japan on March 11th, 2011. This earthquake caused terrible damages and the Tsunami brought the loss of tens of thousands of lives. However, the base-isolated hospitals in the area maintained full operational under those disastrous conditions.
In this paper, the performance and effect of isolated structures during the Tohoku earthquake are introduced, and the comments are followed related to the ISO and JIS standard for elastomeric seismic-isolation bearings.
