Properties of Hollow Sphere Pigment (HSP) and Its Application for Coated Paper Yoko SAITO Jun HASEGAWA ZEON CORPORATION,Kanagawa Nippon Gomu Kyokaishi,(2006),79(2),73-77 General Review in Japanese Abstract Recently, the coated paper industry has been increasingly interested in HSP. The coated paper with HSP shows good performance for high sheet gloss, high brightness, and good opacity. This report focuses on the effect of HSP in coating layer on the properties of coated paper by analyzing the structure of the coating layer. The coated paper with HSP shows excellent smoothness and has many pores in the coating layer. We speculate two reasons for these phenomena, the existence of pores due to the HSP itself, and the disorganization of inorganic pigment caused by HSP.
