| My Experience from the Research and Development of Syndiotactic 1,2\polybutadiene Yasumasa TAKEUCHI President & Chief Executive Officer International Center for Materials Research, Kawasaki-city, Kanagawa-ken, JAPAN Nippon Gomu Kyokaishi,(2005),78(9),340-344 General Review in Japanese Abstract This paper deals with a proposal to the young polymer scientist from the old through the accidental discovery of the catalyst which gives low crystalline syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene. The key point of the discovery were the molar ratio of aluminum compound /water, and the structure of the ligands. Although the discovery was serendipitous, it would not have happened if careful observation and operation hypothesis were not made during the research.
