This review shows how to characterize the fractured surface of adhesively bonded joints using fractals. Some technical problems are also explained when the fractal dimensions of fractured surface of epoxy adhesives are estimated for the finite length of surface trace. The effects of resolution for fractured surfaces and the number of data for surface trace on the estimated fractal dimensions are focused. Applicability of fractal dimensions of fractured surface is also demonstrated to analyze the crack growth in the adhesive layer not only under static loading but also under fatigue loading.
