Content | The “Fundamentals of Rubber Technology” published in 1983 has served as a reference book for those engaged in rubber-related work and research, and has been widely used as an introductory textbook on rubber technology. Over the years, with the advancement of rubber technology, significant revisions became necessary. Thanks to the efforts of many authors, reviewers, and members of the publishing committee, the “New Edition of Fundamentals of Rubber Technology” was published in 1999.Since then, we have received numerous requests for revisions and corrections from those who have purchased and used this book, those who use it as a textbook for instruction, and the authors themselves. Taking this opportunity to reprint the book, we have carried out revisions with the cooperation of the authors. The newly added sections include tables on the properties and applications of major rubbers, which were highly praised in the original “Fundamentals of Rubber Technology,” making the book more user-friendly overall. We hope that this book will continue to serve as an introductory text on rubber technology and as a reference book for active rubber engineers, related engineers, and researchers. |

Content | This book compiles the content serialized over 13 installments in Nippon Gomu Kyokaishi starting with the May 1998 issue. It provides clear explanations, using numerous illustrations and diagrams, on the fundamental characteristics of rubber as a material, its composition, and processing methods, making it accessible even to non-specialists.Recently, with increasing technological sophistication and integration, the need to effectively utilize rubber as a viscoelastic material and more has grown not only among rubber engineers but also across broad fields such as machinery, architecture, and civil engineering. We hope sales personnel for rubber products and designers/engineers who use rubber components will find this publication useful. |

The Society of Rubber Science and Technology, Japan's Research Committee, Health Issues Subcommittee has confirmed the basis for listing substances in the third edition of its voluntary regulatory standards for primary raw materials and secondary materials used in rubber, and is reviewing the substance list and test methods. The Society of Rubber Science and Technology, Japan's Research Committee, Health Issues Subcommittee published the fourth edition of the ‘Positive List for Rubber Food Contact Articles and Containers/Packaging’, which had been frequently requested by various parties, on September 30, 2002. The key points of this revision are: - Confirming the compliance of substances listed in the third edition with standards in other countries (Japan, the United States, the European Union), considering that no revisions had been made since the third edition (revised March 1983) was published. - Clarifying the basis for future revisions. The structure of the substance list in the 4th Edition is as follows. As a general rule, it is organized similarly to the 3rd Edition and earlier, dividing substances into raw rubber and other additives, etc., with each assigned a number using the same system as before. |

Content | Seismically isolated buildings have proven their effectiveness in ensuring safety and security through their experience in the Great Hanshin Earthquake, the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the Kumamoto Earthquake, establishing themselves as a reliable architectural structure. Layered rubber is a critical component supporting this structure. This book has been fully revised 17 years after its initial publication. The revised edition is authored by the strongest experts from both associations, supervised by Professor Minoru Nishimoto (Honorary Professor at the University of Tokyo and Tokyo Institute of Technology) and Professor Mineo Takayama (Professor at Fukuoka University), andTakayama Mineo (Professor at Fukuoka University) have compiled this book, which features the latest trends in seismic isolation buildings both domestically and internationally, as well as the latest technical information on layered rubber. This is an indispensable reference book for both seasoned rubber engineers and structural designers, as well as beginners, providing practical knowledge that can be immediately applied in real-world scenarios. |
