Epichlorohydrin rubber is synthesized by a ring opening polymerization of epoxides. Epichlorohydrin, ethylene oxide and allyl glycidyl ether are used as epoxides. Industrial production was history of development of a polymerization catalyst. Epichlorohydrin rubber is utilized for automotives and industrial rubber using its performance.
On the other hand, new applications continue to be developed with a polymer of epoxides (except epichlorohydrin).
