Mechanics of Tire Shape

There are two design elements in tire shape design; sidewall shape and crown shape. There are three theories in the mechanics of sidewall shape of tires; natural equilibrium shape, non-natural equilibrium shape and optimized shape. There is one theory in the mechanics of crown shape of tires: the numerical procedure that the finite element method is combined with the optimization method using the neural network. Those theories are reviewed and their applications for the tire design are summarized.
