Organic Thin Films by Plasma Polymerization and Their Functionalities Atsumu SHOJI Bio-Nano Electronics Research Center, Kawagoe, Saitama, Japan Yasuhiko YOSHIDA Department of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, Toyo University, Kawagoe, Saitama, Japan Nippon Gomu Kyokaishi,(2005),78(11),435-440 General Review in Japanese Abstract Plasma polymerization and plasma treatment are useful methods for modifying the surface characteristics of organic materials. Plasma polymerization forms homogeneous organic thin films on material surfaces, and plasma treatment modifies chemically the surfaces of organic materials. These plasma processings give a hydrophilic or hydrophobic (water-repellent) property to the surfaces of materials.
